The House on the hill (A Halloween story)
Chapter 1
Long time ago there was a merchant with a 10 year old daughter named Emily. He had lost his job. He was very sad and unhappy. So he went abroad to find a job. Emily was left at home. Went he came back he was rich. This made him proud and arrogant. Emily couldn’t stand his arrogance so she left home while her father was asleep. She packed some matches and a lantern along with a loaf of bread just in case. She kept walking and came to a house on the hill. She knocked on the door. No answer. She knocked again. Nothing happened. She decided to go somewhere else. Suddenly the door opened. She stepped inside. She saw a bed. It was very shabby. She did not like it so she was about to step outside when all of a sudden the door slammed shut behind her. Seeing that there was no other choice she made her way to the bed and went to sleep. Suddenly there was a cackle from under the bed. But Emily didn’t hear it.
Chapter 2
When Emily woke up it was pitch dark. She couldn’t remember where she was. Then she remembered that she was on the top of the hill. All of a sudden she felt cold. She saw something glowing. She went close to it. It went in front of something then it disappeared. She saw a faint outline in the wall. She touched it. Something went snap and a secret passageway appeared in front of her. She went inside. She went in and she closed her eyes. All of a sudden she felt a chill.
Chapter 3
Meanwhile, Emily’s dad was not at all worried. He was busy getting ready for a grand party celebrating his success of becoming a billionaire. The party had 1,000 of the most expensive balloons. He invited 200 people to come to his party and didn’t even think about his daughter. It was a grand party with a different assortment of cheeses (500), tropical fruits from all over the world(cost a small fortune) real Mexican pizza (from the actual Mexico) Soon the party was over. And the father went to bed.
Chapter 4
When Emily opened her eyes she couldn’t see anything. As she was walking down a narrow walkway, she stayed to the left wall. When suddenly she tripped and an arrow landed 1 inch away from her face. Then she realized the whole place could be booby-trapped. She slowly made her way trying not to set off booby-trap. Then all of a sudden the path widened out in to 2 paths. 1 path had something growling in it in the other path there was something hissing. She chose the path with the hissing because it could be a snake and snakes aren’t as fast as some of the growling animals. It was a good thing she chose the snake path because the only snake in there was a harmless garter snake. She walked until she came to a chair next to a candle. There was another path on the opposite side of the room. She sat on the chair. Just then she began to realize how hungry she was. She took out her bread and was just about to take a bite when all of a sudden the candle blew out. The whole room was pitch black.
Chapter 5
When the father woke up, he only thought of his success. He then went to have breakfast. He waited for his breakfast (He thought Emily was going to make it for him). He thought “What a lazy girl she is!” So he got up to get his plate. But there were no plates he had used all of them at the party. “What!” he thought. “What happened to all the plates?” So he went to the dining room and gasped. It was a mess. “Why didn’t anyone clean it up” he thought. Then he remembered the party. Then he remembered his daughter. He gasped. “Where is she?” He thought. So he looked all over the house. Soon he got so desperate he looked in the most bizarre places. He looked under plates, and behind curtains. Soon he came up with the conclusion that she was not at home. So he went outside and asked everyone “Have you seen my daughter Emily?” But no one had.
Chapter 6
Emily remembered the matches she had taken from home. She took one out and lit the candle. She then took the candle and proceeded down the next path. She came to a room that made her gasp. She saw skeletons and lots of treasure. She was about to take some when all of a sudden she saw a scroll. It said “touch the treasure in this room and you have just assured your doom” Emily took one look at the skeletons and ran from the room.
Chapter 7
Emily’s father went to all of the places in his village. He still couldn’t find his daughter. He knew his daughter wasn’t on a plane or a train because when he was poor he had no money and when he was rich he didn’t bother giving her money because he was so stuck up. So she was obviously in the village. He went to his friend’s house and asked if he had seen his daughter. But the friend hadn’t seen her. He kept looking in all of his friend’s houses. Soon he decided that she wasn’t in any occupied houses so he decided she was on the house on the top of the hill.
Chapter 8
Emily was running when she stopped to take a break. She was very scared when she looked in front of her. There was a dead end. By now she was so scared she wanted to get out of the house. So she turned around to go back the way she had come. But that way was also blocked by dirt. She gasped. She didn’t know where to go! So she started digging upwards. She dug till her arms ached.
Chapter 9
Emily’s father went up the hill he brought a spoon, a banana, bread and some applesauce. He went into the house and saw the bed Emily had slept in. He kept walking and came to the place where Emily had seen the garter snake. He stayed to right side of the wall. All of a sudden he pushed a lever and fell. He arrived in a room under the ground. He heard a digging sound. He thought it was an animal and he pointed his spoon out in front of him as a weapon. He started to approach the digging sound which was coming from the hole in front of him. He went into the hole and saw someone. All of a sudden he recognized the person as his daughter. “Emily” he cried!
Chapter 10
“How did you get in here” they both said at the same time. As Emily told the story to her father he started to cry. “I’m sorry” he cried. “I will come home if you promise to be kind” Emily said. “Alright” said her father. “I will be kind. And I’m sorry.” “Its ok” said Emily. All of a sudden they saw some eyes under a chair. “I saw those eyes before!” She cried. All of a sudden they heard a “meow”. And a tabby cat emerged from under the chair. “So you were the eyes.” Said Emily. She took the cat and asked her father “How will we get out of here?” asked her father. “I know” said Emily she got the chair and started pounding the roof. All of a sudden all the dirt cleared away. They climbed out and headed home.
Chapter 11
Emily and her father had a good life. But back at the house on the hill… under a bed 2 eyes gleamed and suddenly a wicked laughter filled the house.
